Turtle dove
This is the smallest dove, measuring some 28 centimetres long. Its song is a kind of trill. It feeds on seeds, grain, fruit and nuts. Turtle doves may lay their eggs up to two or three times a year. They build their nests in trees, and the female lays two eggs, which are incubated both by the male and the female for a period of around two weeks. The chicks are ready to fly the nest after about three weeks.
Partridge
An adult partridge measures between 33 and 38 cm in length, has a wingspan of between 50 and 60 cm, and a tail measuring around 12 cm. Typical plumage and colouring change in accordance with age and sex.
Partridge may be hunted from May to August, and are prolific in the Argentinean countryside, easily meeting a huntsman's expectations. By dusk the dogs are often worn out by the sheer number of kills.
Duck
Feeds on grain, seeds and microorganisms. Generally found in pairs. Tree-dwelling. Nests in hollows in tree trunks.
Argentina is known for its large quantity of ducks. They are hunted around the lakes and rice paddies, where they are found congregating in great numbers. Camouflaged hides are used.
Goose
Geese are smaller than swans and larger than ducks. They generally congregate in areas of plentiful grain or other food. The male and female have identical colouring, and can be told apart only by weight and size.
Together with the swan they are the heaviest flighted fowl, but can cover great distances at considerable altitude, and may emigrate for various seasons of the year.
